I joined a UX research challenge hosted by iterateUX, a Canada-based UI/X design community, to collaborate with a start-up called Redlizard Studioz and conduct in-depth research for their coming product This Active Life. Working in a group of 4, I get to taste how research is performed in real life.
<aside> 👩🏻💻 Overview
—— Problem ——
Stakeholders believe that people are leaning towards a more sedentary lifestyle nowadays which is detrimental to their health. In order to motivate them to exercise, the company would like to build a product that helps users find accountability partner to do together so as to boost their social health which in turn enhance their physical health ultimately.
—— Our responsibilities —— We were asked to perform usability testing for their prototype and provide any other valuable insights through primary research in four weeks.
—— Conclusion ——
We believe more in-depth research on the market and user behaviour would be extremely helpful for further development of the product.
Based in Vancouver, Redlizard Studioz is a company that provides digital solutions to small to mid-sized corporations across various industries. In this project, we would be responsible for conducting qualitative research and usability testing for the initial prototype of one of their upcoming products, This Active Life.
There is a mounting number of people who are diagnosed as having various chronic diseases due to the lack of movement (sedentary lifestyle) under pandemic. Understanding that 50% of Americans are currently suffering from at-least one or more kinds of chronic illness, the company aims to improve physical health by helping users find accountability partner to boost social health, as proven effective by psychologists.
Users can either create or join events organized by known (friends) or unknown members (public) on the app. They can either search and join an activity with people in the neighbourhood, or plan one by selecting a date and time they are available and post it publicly or invite friends to join in. Activities can be but not limited to exercises and other social events such as drinking coffee.
